Q1: dear sir, i am interested in buying binocuars,i am looking at the nikon monach 12 x 42atb.can you please tell me what is ATB? i would like them for general use, racing birding and theatre. maybe this is too generalised please give me your opinion.

A: The "ATB" in Nikon 12x42 Monarch ATB binoculars stands for "All Terrain Binoculars," and they live up to their name. Optics are excellent, they're waterproof, fog-proof and shock-resistant and can take a beating, while still delivering great views. We're concerned, though, that 12X magnification might be a bit much for general-purpose binoculars that will be handheld. Magnification magnifies EVERYTHING, especially the effects of normal hand tremors, so with high magnification, you can expect your images to jump around a bit. You'll likely want to use 12X binoculars with a rest or tripod. Generally, folks figure that 10X binoculars are about the limit for maintaining a steady image in handheld binoculars.
